Todd Rundgren

Todd Rundgren in the 1970's.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

I’d heard (correctly or incorrectly) that during a Todd Rundgren gig, he’ll have a jokey moan about being popular now, but where was the audience in the 70’s (when presumably, he was less popular). I’ve no idea whether that’s true or not, but from what I can gather, he’s rather a nice man, so I suspect it’s untrue.

This however is true: I’d never heard of Todd Rundgren before I saw the rather excellent Sparks documentary “The Sparks Brothers”. Todd was one of Sparks first producers and produced their first album “HalfNelson” (so I guess he was responsible for Sparks’ creation as a band).

Although Sparks is known Worldwide, Todd was clearly known in the USA, but not quite so well known over here in the UK.

Then (as I like to say) something wonderful happened. Todd did a collaboration track with Sparks for his new upcoming album (Space Force) with a track called “Your Fandango”.

Always curious for new music, I looked at Your Fandango and (whilst I was there) a couple of YouTube videos of Todd tracks and decided to give his new album a go. That turned out to be one of my better decisions, I enjoyed Space Force a great deal – which sent me off on a search for more Todd music (of which there is a-plenty!).

So Todd, if I’d have known about you in the 70’s, I’d have been there for you man. But I’m making up for it now!
