How I Choose What To Watch

How I choose what to watch on the telly.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

A little insight into my thought processes behind choosing watch to watch and what to listen to. (Buckle up!)

This applies to new programmes (or music) and not standard (but ongoing) programmes that I’ll always watch like Doctor Who (or anything Star Trek). Also doesn’t apply to the old stuff such as Battlestar or ‘Allo ‘Allo for example.

There’s two main methods I’ll use to “scout “for new things to watch. I make use of several TV database sites that list shows. Sites like IMDB, TheTVDB, TMDB and TVMaze all have articles about the latest shows, or new and upcoming ones. If the trailers and the descriptions are favourable, I’ll give them a try.

The second method is actors. If there’s an actor that I think is particularly good in a show, I’ll more than likely checkout the shows that they appear in. This is not always the case (as some actors can make poor choices, just like the rest of us!) but usually I’ll like an actor for their skill and they’ll make the kinds of series or films that I would generally like.

Music choices are slightly different. I can get suggestions from all sorts of places: TV programmes, chat shows, YouTube, that kind of thing. If I hear a track that appeals, then I’ll check it out. Nowadays, most series background music is logged somewhere on the internet, so it’s pretty easy to track (ha ha) down a tune. However there are very few that “make the final cut” for a full album. I might like a single track, I may not like the rest of their body of work.

And that’s basically it. See me, feel me, hear me, love me, touch me. As Dee D. Jackson once said.
