A brief little post-ette outlining the process I use when considering and writing a blog post. Just because no-one asked.
It is however, related to the posts about secure DNS and Raspberry Pi servers.
My post writing process
This is my post creation/writing/posting process:
- I think of a subject. I go out on an hour’s walk six days a week and sometimes along the way, an idea will pop into my head. I’ll spend a few walks fleshing it out, planning out what I’m going to harp on about and in what order etc. All this is in my head at that point.
- Once I’m happy that I’ve got something to say, I’ll open a new text file, in Windows Notepad (or Gnome Text Editor, depending on which desktop O/S I’m using on that day). The file will get synced to my OneDrive, so I’ll be able to access it from any desktop, tablet (or phone) that I have.
- I write stuff. Lots of stuff. It’ll go through a few drafts, correcting spelling, grammar and any other frivolities along the way, until I’m reasonably happy with the text version of the post.
- By the time I’ve got that far, I’ll have a good idea about what pictures (if any) I’ll want, so I’ll go and get those ready.
- The next step is to start up my dev site, copy and paste the text into a new post on the site, add the pictures, the SEO rubbish, make any adjustments and tweaks. I get the opportunity to see the finished post on the dev site, so I can see what it will look like to the regular (?) reader (or any reader!).
- Once happy with that, I can copy and past all of the text and formatting blocks up to the live site, and publish!
And that, as they say, is that. The birth of yet another masterpiece of bloggery.
